No matter what year or subject you teach, Social Contracts can be used for any student, from pre-k to elementary school; middle school to high school.<\/p>\n<p>Collaborating on these as a class is the perfect way to initiate conversation around culture and respect, but it\u2019s also vital for setting up the ideal learning environment for every student.<\/p>\n<p>Social Contracts define what you all consider to be good behavior or misbehavior. Having these defined and printed out as a \u201cclassroom rules poster\u201d on your bulletin board for all to see and refer back is the perfect problem-solving cheat sheet \u2013 resolving issues before they get out of hand.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- .et_pb_text --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- .et_pb_column --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- .et_pb_row --><\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_row et_pb_row_97 et_pb_equal_columns\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column et_pb_column_4_4 et_pb_column_101  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough et-last-child\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_109  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<h5>Types of classroom rules<\/h5>\n<p>You\u2019re sure to have a few in mind already, but here is a quick list of rules for you to use as inspo this back to school season.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arrive to class on time<\/li>\n<li>Respect others<\/li>\n<li>Raise your hand to speak<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your work is always your own<\/li>\n<li>Listen to your teacher when spoken to<\/li>\n<li>Keep all hands, feet, and objects to yourself<\/li>\n<li>Ask for help if you don\u2019t understand something<\/li>\n<li>Never give up on yourself<\/li>\n<li>Respect each others answers, ideas, and opinions<\/li>\n<li>Remind others of the social contract if they\u2019re up to no good.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students don\u2019t always mean to break the rules \u2013 sometimes life happens, and they\u2019re up against the odds. To make sure they know what to do in these situations, offer some helpful alternatives e.g. Late to class? Get a parent or staff member to inform your class teacher so they know ahead of time. Or, why not try a fun role-play activity. Get your extraverted students to act out different classroom scenarios and see how others in the class suggest to solve the problem. Integrate it as classwork and brainstorm together on a chalkboard or whiteboard first; or give every student a chance to create their own before coming together to vote on your favorites. For some deeper thinking, you could assign it as homework \u2013 this is a great option for the first week of school before more intense learning pops up.<\/p>\n<p>Whichever method you choose, it\u2019s important to visualise your set expectations so all students can be reminded of what you\u2019ve all agreed to.
