Real-Time Feedback, Real Impact

When Matt Vickery, an Executive Headteacher at IWS Online School, first encountered Kami at the BETT conference in London, he was immediately drawn to its Class View feature. He recognised the potential of real-time oversight and instant feedback as beneficial for online instruction. However, an interest in one feature soon evolved into an appreciation for Kami’s versatility.

The Challenge

Running an online-only school presents unique challenges. Unlike traditional classrooms, where teachers can observe students’ work as it happens, online educators often struggle to gain visibility into students’ learning processes. The need for a tool that allows teachers to “look over students’ shoulders,” provide immediate feedback, and intervene when necessary was critical.

The Solution

While Class View initially piqued Vickery’s interest, his experience at BETT quickly revealed Kami’s broader potential. Beyond just monitoring student work, Kami provided a platform where students and teachers could engage through multiple mediums, including:

  • Graphical Annotations
  • Text and Audio Feedback
  • Video and Screen Sharing

Kami’s adaptability allowed teachers to switch tools on and off, maintaining control over their classrooms while also enhancing student interaction.

The Results

A unanimous teacher favourite following the introduction of Kami into his school’s digital ecosystem, Vickery and his team conducted an internal review, interviewing every single teacher to gather feedback on three different educational platforms. The results were resounding:

“Unanimously, Kami came back as the tool that every single teacher said was the best out of the three we used.”

Teachers praised Kami for its intuitiveness, ease of use, and ability to give them full control over their digital classrooms.

Key Takeaways for Education Leaders

Vickery’s experience highlights several key benefits of adopting Kami:

  1. Real-Time Classroom Management – The ability to monitor, support, and intervene in student learning instantaneously.
  2. Versatile Interaction Methods – Integration of text, video, audio, and annotations.
  3. Teacher-Approved Usability – A platform that educators found easy to navigate and preferred over competitors.

For online schools, Kami provides educators with tools to enhance student outcomes. As Vickery summarises:

“It’s definitely been one of our big success stories.”
