In today’s educational landscape, fostering student engagement is more important than ever. The post-pandemic era has introduced numerous challenges that have significantly impacted how students interact with their learning environments. At Kami, we understand these issues and are committed to supporting school and district leaders in addressing them.

To gain a better understanding of student engagement statistics, Kami conducted a comprehensive survey involving over 3,000 K-12 educators. The goal was to identify effective strategies, understand the challenges educators are facing, and explore ways to enhance student involvement and motivation. Here is a snapshot of some of the key findings.

A peek into the results:

Our survey on student engagement statistics revealed that 53% of classrooms achieve high to very high student engagement, showing that many educators are successfully implementing strategies that resonate with their students. However, 43% of classrooms maintain only moderate engagement, indicating opportunities for improvement. Additionally, 4% of classrooms experience low to very low engagement, pointing to areas where support is especially needed.

When it comes to engagement strategies, classrooms with the most engaged students utilize the following approaches:

  • Interactive Activities: 84.67%
  • Technology Integration: 66.75%
  • Collaborative Learning: 62.78%
  • Differentiated and Individualized Instruction: 60.89%
  • Project-Based Learning: 41.15%

These strategies demonstrate a diverse range of methods that effectively engage students by making learning more interactive, personalized, and collaborative. However, the demands of heavy workloads, challenging student behaviors, and limited time make it hard for many teachers to apply these diverse engagement strategies.

The challenge for leaders

It’s no surprise that student engagement has become a high priority for school leaders planning for the year ahead. Many are focussed on developing holistic strategies to re-engage students, support their well-being, and ensure equitable learning opportunities for all. The main challenge is finding solutions that boost student engagement without adding extra burdens to teachers’ already stretched time. This will likely require investment in training, tools, and support systems that empower educators to create more engaging and supportive classroom environments.

How Kami can help
