The Challenge

As reading takes a lot of time and energy for Cooper, his school days were often spent waiting for support, feeling left behind while his classmates moved ahead. This also meant skipping recess or subjects like PE, arts and music, to sit with a teacher and be read to. Already tired from straining to read, he was then missing out on the very activities that would help him refocus.

Enter Kami

Kami has transformed Cooper’s relationship with learning. With Kami’s help, Cooper has access to accommodations such as:

  • Read Aloud which converts text to speech, saving precious time and energy
  • Voice typing which helps with processing and ensures students don’t fall behind
  • Accessibility fonts which assist dyslexic learners by converting text to more accessible fonts, such as OpenDyslexic and Lexend

Real Results

Since he has started learning with Kami, Cooper has been able to:

  • Focus his brainpower on answering questions rather than struggling to read the text.
  • Learn independently without having to wait for assistance
  • Use his initiative and become less reliant on teacher support
  • Level the playing field with his classmates
  • Enjoy school life by playing with friends at recess instead of missing out

In Cameron’s Words

“Kami makes me feel more empowered and more independent, knowing that I don’t need people right next to me to read everything to me.”

Kami Companion and UDL — how built-in supports bring the framework to life

May is a complicated month in K-12 classrooms. The year is almost over, which means there's urgency around students who still haven't quite gotten there, and exhaustion among the teachers trying to reach them.
